Justin Stanton swearing in with the Texas State Guard, September, 2013

"Serving in the TXSG has been one of the best decisions of my life."

Hello! My name is Justin Stanton, and I own and operate State Defense Supply. Serving State Defenders is my passion because I know the dedication and motivation it takes to serve in a State Defense Force.

My StoryJustin and Elise Stanton

My family has a long history of military service, and joining the US Army was always a dream of mine, but it never happened. In 2012 I found the Texas State Guard and I enlisted in September of 2013. Nobody serves alone; it takes the support of family, friends, and employers. Serving is a commitment of your time and resources.  When I joined, I had no idea of what I needed in terms of uniforms and equipment, and I went out and spent a lot of my own money buying anything and everything I thought I might need. Most of it still sits unused, packed away in boxes, shoved up in the attic.

Since then I have served in a variety of roles and jobs within the organization, but my primary role for most of my service has been as a recruiter. While helping people realize their goals and dreams of serving in a military organization, I saw people struggling with the same things I did when I first joined: knowing what to buy and where to get it. I worked to put together uniform and equipment lists with links to help them, but even that still left people confused, not knowing exactly what to get.

State Defense Supply is LaunchedJustin at State Defense Supply in Rosenberg, Texas

In February of 2020 I launched State Defense Supply with the singular mission of providing a ONE-STOP SHOP for State Defense Force service members with a focus on collecting and selling uniforms and uniform packages. Building off of my experience in the Texas State Guard, I started reaching out to people in other states to find out what their members wear and need. We are constantly building and expanding with a goal to be the go-to source for all things related to service as a STATE DEFENDER.

  • Simplify the process by offering pre-assembled and approved uniform packages
  • Spend your money on the "need to have", not the "nice to have" items
  • Make sure State Defenders are Mission-Ready to deploy down-range when called to duty
  • Offer different levels for different budgets

Who We Are ...

State Defense Forces Authorized by US Code

State Defense Forces are military units comprised of volunteers who train primarily for disaster response and relief. Although the mission, training and use of each SDF varies by state, they are authorized by law under Title 32 of the US Code:

US Code Title 32, Section 109

(c)In addition to its National Guard, if any, a State, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, Guam, or the Virgin Islands may, as provided by its laws, organize and maintain defense forces. A defense force established under this section may be used within the jurisdiction concerned, as its chief executive (or commanding general in the case of the District of Columbia) considers necessary, but it may not be called, ordered, or drafted into the armed forces.

In general, SDF soldiers volunteer their time for training, purchase their own uniforms and equipment, and drill one weekend a month with some sort of Annual Training period. Some states offer paid deployments when SDF soldiers are activated for disasters or emergencies. Each SDF has it's own requirements and qualifications, but none require that you have prior federal military service.

There are currently 19 states and the Territory of Puerto Rico that have active State Defense Forces. If you live in one of these states and are interested in serving as a State Defense Soldier, let us help connect you with a recruiter!
